[May 2022 - Nuuk, Greenland] - Greenland Ruby collaborated with designer and artist Reena Ahluwalia for their 5th year anniversary. The ‘phygital’ fundraiser marked a first-of-its-kind within the gem and jewelry world.
The raffle tickets were made available for purchase, and each donor received a limited-edition animated Ruby NFT of Ahluwalia’s painting on canvas. Proceeds from the campaign supported the PinkPolarBear Foundation, a Greenland Ruby initiative focused on supporting international polar research in all disciplines and protecting inhabitants of Greenland affected by climate change.
Inspired by the 3-billion-year journey of the Greenlandic gems, ‘Fire Under Ice’ original artwork and the limited-edition NFT combined technology, innovation and the beauty of nature. In keeping with Greenland Ruby’s mine-to-market initiative, the ‘Fire Under Ice’ NFT is immortalized on blockchain technology; a perfect match for Greenland Ruby’s dedication to traceability and transparency.
“At its heart, my painting conveys the beauty of our natural world,” Ahluwalia said of the campaign. “I hope my artwork and NFT will remind donors of the significant contribution they made and keep inspiring everyone to protect and nurture our environment and inhabitants.”
“This project is meaningful; I am thankful to the PinkPolarBear Foundation and Greenland Ruby for this valuable opportunity to fundraise,” she added.
Nobuyuki Horiuchi, CEO of Japan’s Ambrose and Company, Ltd., was randomly selected as the recipient of Ahluwalia’s ‘Fire Under Ice’ painting. Valued at $10,000, the custom-made, hand-painted canvas was donated by the artist Reena Ahluwalia to Greenland Ruby.
The CCO Hayley Henning said, “As part of our anniversary celebration, we’re thrilled to be able to make such a grand contribution to the PinkPolarBear Foundation with a campaign both original and innovative. The original artwork on canvas, with digital art NFTs is a spectacular contribution from Reena and we thank her for her incredible talent and generosity in making a tangible impact. Her depiction of our rubies in their icy landscape is perfect!”
‘Fire Under Ice’ is a physical painting on canvas by Reena Ahluwalia depicting the pristine Greenlandic landscape, a habitat of polar bears.
“My painting conveys the fragility and beauty of our natural world. I wanted my art, both physical and digital / NFTs, to stand for my beliefs, activism and tangibly contribute. All proceeds went towards pinkpolarbear.org for polar research, conservation & community service”. ~ Reena Ahluwalia
